TCCA METRO JR League
The TCCA METRO JR Development Program is designed for curlers under 21 years old. The intent of this league is to provide additional ice opportunities for instruction and games beyond what is offered at the junior level within each club. This program will expose kids to new curling venues, fellow junior curlers in the Twin Cities area and help foster growth and interest in the sport. Each week the league will rotate between the TCCA affiliated clubs – Chaska, Four Seasons (Blaine), Frogtown (St Paul) and Saint Paul Curling Club.
The second session will begin with a evaluations & skills session. Based upon this assessment, teams will be constructed based on skill level to ensure competitive play as well as skill development. A newly created “Skills Assessment Program” will be used to help form teams as well as aid instruction and be offered to the individual clubs for their own program development.
The program is structured to have kids play a 6-end game each week with some coach interaction and feedback, as well as include skill and tactical instruction. Adult volunteers will serve as instructors/coaches. A key goal is to allow juniors to have more game play opportunity while improving their skills. A merit program will be used to both improve skills and evaluate skill level for personal use as well as team placement. Details on the merit program can be found on the TCCA website (link below).
NEW ADDITION: Based on the kids’ feedback, we will be adding expert workshops! Several of the sessions will begin at NOON and include a 1 hours TRAINING CLINICS which will be instructed by several past olympians and high profile COMPETITIVE curlers.
